Amend the U.S. Constitution to Silence Money in Politics
Our Mission
Mutable seeks to reconnect American citizens with their constitutions and governing documents, culminating in an all-out effort to amend the U.S. Constitution to rid our political system of the overbearing influence of corporate and special interest money.
Money in politics speaks louder than the voice of the people. Repeated deregulations and Supreme Court decisions have created a system of disproportionate influence (some call this legal bribery). Legislatures, both state and federal, have grown accustomed to this system, but it’s WRONG. Only the people, acting together, can set our government back on a better path. Only a Constitutional Amendment can overturn the toughest obstacles. Therefore, we are in desperate need of an Article V Constitutional Convention!
“But it’s never been done before”, you say? No matter. We are plotting the course!
The Plan
Our method will be to galvanize citizens into calling on their states to apply, using our specific application language template, for a REPRESENTATIVE convention of delegates ELECTED by the people, to form a DELIBERATIVE body, which will be LIMITED solely to the topic of campaign finance reform.
Representative
One delegate from each district in every state
(just like how we elect members of the U.S. House of Reps)
Elected
Chosen by the people, NOT by any legislatures
(the very government we seek to reform cannot choose their own delegates)
Deliberative
Delegates will choose the meeting structure, call witnesses, and together arrive at conclusions
(They will NOT abide pre-determined instructions from State Legislatures)
Limited
Convention applications will bind the convention to one single issue: campaign finance reform
(Any convention which exceeds this mandate will be met with rejection and ostracization)
